Heide

Heide - market town in the North Sea wind

With almost 47,000 square meters of undeveloped area, it is the largest square in Germany and a place with history. During the time of the independent peasant republic of Dithmarschen, the square was the meeting place of the regional assembly from 1447. As early as the 16th century, merchants gathered there every Saturday for a weekly market. The farmers' republic has long since ceased to exist, but the traditional weekly market has remained to this day. In addition, a large Christmas market is held on the square every year, as well as the "Heider Marktfrieden" (Heider Market Peace) every two years.
