How do I book a ticket?

It's that simple: Just book a ticket for your desired date in the webshop.

Information and booking: www.nachtexpress.de

Yes, tickets for our EuroNight 472/473 Basel-Malmö are best booked conveniently online via our webshop

Yes, that is possible.

Please note that you must inform our customer service on the day of departure if you wish to board at a station later than the one indicated on your ticket, so that you can keep your seat on the train. If you do not communicate the change before the train's departure time, you may lose your claim to the seat.

The requirement for this is that the booked passenger with their ticket is the first to board. The other family members or friends travelling in the compartment, as indicated during the ticket booking, can then also board the compartment at a later station stop.

No, the EuroNight only carries passengers and no vehicles. Car rental companies at the arrival station will be happy to make you a suitable offer for your desired travel vehicle. For the route Hamburg <> Lörrach, we also recommend our BTE AutoReiseZug (tickets available at www.bte-autoreisezug.de).

The EuroNight 472/473 Basel-Malmö will operate from April 2026. The timetable is available here.

Avoid tight transfer times so that you don't get stressed at the station. We recommend allowing a sufficient gap of at least 2 hours between transfers. During your journey, you should contact the train company if you need assistance. So if you are on EuroNight 472/473, reach out to our onboard staff or customer service, and if you are on a Deutsche Bahn train, contact Deutsche Bahn, etc. The same applies if your journey is delayed; then contact the train company that caused the delay to receive compensation.

What if you miss a connection? When travelling by train across Europe, it is common to need to change trains during your journey. You should be able to rely on arriving at your final destination. That’s why we work with other European train companies, so you can easily get help if you miss a train change due to a delay.

The mobility service at the platforms requires prior registration with the relevant authorities. Assistance should be requested at least 48 hours before the start of the journey.

For boarding or alighting in Germany, registration can be done at:

In our sleeper car, we offer a barrier-free compartment with a wheelchair space and a sleeping place for the accompanying person. The carriage has two showers and two toilets, one of which is barrier-free.

What luggage is allowed on board our night train?

You are allowed to take no more than one bag (maximum dimensions 80x50x35 cm, maximum weight 20 kg) and one small piece of hand luggage. Special luggage may only be taken if you book an additional bed in your sleeper or couchette compartment; see information further down.
The luggage must be stored in the compartment either under the lowest bunk or above the door.

If you are travelling alone, wish to book a sleeper compartment and want to take more luggage than allowed by the SJ EuroNight rules, you must book a private compartment. Then you can take luggage according to our general luggage rules.

If you are travelling alone, wish to book a couchette compartment and want to take more luggage than allowed by the SJ EuroNight rules, you must book an additional empty bunk. Then you can take luggage according to our general luggage rules.

If you are travelling in a group and wish to book a private couchette or sleeper compartment, we still recommend booking an additional empty bed if you want to take more luggage than allowed by the SJ EuroNight rules. Otherwise, there may not be enough space for all your luggage in your compartment.

If you are travelling in a seat carriage, you are not allowed to book an additional seat to take more luggage. You are only allowed to take one bag and no special luggage.
Otherwise, our general rules apply regarding your responsibility for your luggage and how it should be packed.

To take special luggage into your compartment, you must book an empty extra bed. If you have booked an additional bed, the rules from SJ for special luggage apply (see below).

You are not allowed to take special luggage if you are travelling in a seating carriage; this also applies to bicycles.

Rules for special luggage:

If you wish to take larger luggage, we recommend choosing a departure that does not occur during peak times. The train conductor may be forced to refuse special luggage if there is no more space on your departure.

Strollers must be folded in advance before boarding the train. The stroller should be placed in a way that does not obstruct accessibility on board and must never be placed near the train doors or escape routes. It is not permitted to book a wheelchair space to store a stroller there.

Wheelchair/Mobile Scooter: A wheelchair space must always be booked to bring a wheelchair/mobile scooter on board in an unfolded position. We only allow wheelchairs/mobile scooters on board that meet our length and size requirements. The train conductor may refuse transport if the dimensions of the wheelchair/mobility scooter exceed the requirements or if you have not booked a wheelchair space.

Wheelchairs/mobile scooters that are to be transported as luggage must be folded throughout the entire journey. The wheelchair lift must not be used for boarding. You must carry your luggage on board yourself. On board the train, a folded wheelchair/scooter will be placed in the luggage compartment (maximum dimensions 100x85x30 cm and maximum weight 25 kg).

Sports equipment such as skis and golf clubs must be stored in a bag and placed so that they cannot fall over.

Electric scooters and smaller folding bicycles must be folded and placed in the luggage rack or under the seat in front of you. They must not be stored in the luggage compartments. It is not permitted to charge electric scooters or larger lithium batteries on the train.

Bicycles must be disassembled or folded before boarding and stored in a bicycle bag (maximum dimensions 140x85x30 cm, maximum weight 25 kg including bicycle and bag). The bag must be stored in the luggage area.

Larger musical instruments must be stored in an instrument case and placed on the floor as instructed by the train conductor.

To take a bicycle on SJ EuroNight, you must book an additional bed in a sleeper car or sleeper compartment. The bicycle can then be taken along if it is folded and stored in a bicycle bag with maximum dimensions of 140x85x30 cm and a maximum weight of 25 kg including the bicycle and bag.

What do I need to consider on board?

Yes, sleeping car compartments can be locked from the inside.

There is no Wifi on board the EuroNight. So download music, films, or shows you want to watch before boarding. Or even better: just enjoy the journey and chat with your fellow travellers or other passengers!

Between Basel SBB and Padborg, there is a staffed bistro car with additional seating and standing places, providing warm meals, cold and hot drinks, as well as snacks.

Additionally, throughout the journey, drinks and snacks are available for purchase on board from our staff in the car.

Breakfast during the journey

If you are travelling in a sleeper compartment, breakfast is included in the ticket. If you are travelling in a couchette, hot drinks are included.

Small pets that travel in a cage (such as birds, rabbits, and guinea pigs) are allowed to travel free of charge. The cage must not exceed the size of standard hand luggage and must remain closed at all times.

If you wish to travel in a couchette or sleeper car, you must book a private compartment, and you can then take up to two pets with you at no extra charge. The animals must please stay on the floor and are not allowed on the beds.

As a passenger, you are responsible for ensuring that your pet is allowed to enter the respective country (Germany, Denmark, Sweden). The regulations for travelling with animals across national borders vary from country to country and depending on the type of animal.

If you are travelling abroad with your pet, it may require a pet passport, which includes proof of rabies vaccination, known as a European pet passport. Please inquire about the regulations for your destination and the countries you will be travelling through when booking your trip.

Children and young people under 15 years old are not allowed to travel alone on the EuroNight. Even if the child has turned 16, we recommend that they carry a signed consent form with them.
