Departure of the Night Train Basel – Malmö is not being funded
We are deeply disappointed by the decision of the Swiss Parliament not to provide the planned funding for the night train connection to Malmö. The start-up financing, which would have been a prerequisite for the launch of the night train Basel - Malmö in spring 2026, is therefore not available – the project cannot be implemented.
Night trains are more than just a means of transport. They are a central component of sustainable mobility, reducing emissions and offering a genuine climate-friendly alternative to flying and driving. The fact that this connection cannot now be realised affects us all – employees, partners, and supporters alike.
We would like to thank all colleagues who have worked on this project with passion, expertise, and commitment. Their professionalism is impressive and deserves the highest recognition.
Even though the night train Basel-Malmö cannot start, the RDC Deutschland Group remains reliable and committed on the path to sustainable, climate-friendly mobility. We continue to believe in the night train, will keep creating solutions, and work on new projects that connect transport, climate, and society.
Customers will be refunded the ticket price
To enable customers to make early bookings, ticket sales were started at the beginning of November.
All travellers who had purchased a ticket for the night train will be refunded the ticket price. SBB will inform customers in the coming days.
