General Information
The SJ EuroNight is an international overnight train that comfortably transports you overnight between Sweden, Denmark, and Germany. You can travel alone, as a couple, with your family, or in a group, and choose from various comfort classes—from seating to sleeper cars. We look forward to seeing you!

When booking the SJ Euronight, you can choose from three comfort categories:
- the comfortable sleeper car
- the social couchette car, or
- affordable travel in the standard seating car.
Seating Car
The seating car is the most affordable travel option on the SJ Euronight. It offers seats in the lounge and in the passenger compartment. You have access to the restroom in the vestibules of the car. The car is equipped with electrical outlets.
Couchette
The couchette offers a comfortable way to spend the night lying down on the SJ Euronight.
Compartments are generally shared by several people (up to 6 people).
In shared compartments, you can sometimes choose between women’s, men’s, or mixed compartments.
You can choose between:
- A single berth in a shared compartment
- A private compartment for your exclusive use
The seats are converted into berths in the evening, and blankets, pillows, and bedding are provided. Washrooms and electrical outlets are available.
Sleeper Car (Sleeper)
The sleeper car is the most comfortable travel class on the SJ EuroNight. You travel in a lockable compartment with real beds that are freshly made before departure. The compartments offer significantly more privacy and comfort.
Amenities vary by class:
1st Class Sleeping Car:
- Private compartment (for exclusive use)
- Up to 3 beds
- Private bathroom with shower and toilet
- 230V power outlet
- Breakfast served in the compartment
- Access to the SJ Lounge in Malmö and Stockholm
2nd Class Sleeper Car:
- Compartment for 1–2 people
- In shared compartments, you can sometimes choose between women’s, men’s, or mixed compartments.
- 230V power outlet
- Sink in the compartment
- Restroom in the hallway
- Breakfast included (in the bistro or to go)
In shared compartments you can sometimes choose between women-only, men-only, or mixed compartments.
The SJ EuroNight offers accessible areas and wheelchair-accessible compartments. We recommend registering via kundenservice@sj.se before your trip.
For trips involving transfers, we recommend allowing at least 2 hours between connections to avoid unnecessary time pressure and ensure a smooth transition between trains.
In this regard, SJ collaborates with several European rail companies to provide support in such situations. The goal is to ensure that you can continue your journey and reach your final destination.
If you miss your connecting train, please contact the on-site staff or the customer service of the respective rail company directly for further assistance.
The Interrail Pass can be used for travel on the SJ EuroNight. However, it does not replace the full booking; it merely covers the fare for the route. A paid reservation is always required in addition to use of the SJ EuroNight.
The cost of the reservation depends on the selected comfort class—so the Interrail Pass does not constitute a traditional discount in the sense of a percentage reduction.
Children and teenagers up to and including age 15 are not permitted to travel alone on the SJ EuroNight. We also recommend that 16-year-olds carry a signed consent form.
Children under 2 years of age generally travel free of charge, provided they do not occupy their own seat or berth. If they require their own seat, you should book a regular ticket.
Special discounts for seniors are not offered on the SJ EuroNight.
There are no standard flat-rate discounts for groups. However, for larger groups, it may be advisable to submit an individual inquiry to kundservice@sj.se to check availability and possible terms.

You may bring one piece of luggage with maximum dimensions of 80 × 50 × 35 cm and weighing up to 20 kg, as well as one additional carry-on item.
Please note that storage space on the train is limited, and you must transport and securely stow your luggage yourself. We assume no liability for your luggage. For safety reasons, our train staff may refuse you boarding if you do not comply with our luggage regulations.
Oversized luggage must always be securely packed and stowed in such a way that it does not interfere with other passengers or train operations.
- Strollers must be folded up before boarding and may not be left in doorways or emergency exits.
- Wheelchairs or mobility aids must either be reserved as a seat or—if transported as baggage—be folded up and stowed in the designated areas.
- Sports equipment such as skis or golf clubs must be transported in suitable bags and secured to prevent them from falling over.
- Electric scooters and similar devices must be transported in a folded state and may not be charged during the journey.
- Larger musical instruments must be placed in suitable carrying cases and positioned according to the instructions of the train crew.
In addition, the carriage of special luggage may be refused if space on the train is fully occupied.
For safety reasons, no dangerous or unsuitable items may be brought on board. This includes, in particular, flammable or explosive substances, as well as items that could pose a danger to other passengers or train operations.
Motorized vehicles and items that cannot be safely stowed on the train due to their size are also prohibited.
To bring a bicycle on the SJ EuroNight, you must book an additional bed in a sleeper car or sleeper compartment. The bicycle may be brought on board if it is folded and stored in a bicycle bag with maximum dimensions of 140x85x30 cm and a maximum weight of 25 kg, including the bicycle and bag.
In the sleeper car, the beds are already made with fresh linens; bedding and towels are provided. In the couchette car, bedding—including sheets, a blanket, and a pillow—is also provided. No bedding is provided in the seating car.
Power outlets are generally available in all compartment categories.
However, we cannot guarantee a continuous power supply throughout the night, as our trains are occasionally uncoupled from the power-supplying locomotive due to shunting operations.
If you require an uninterrupted, reliable power supply for medical reasons, we unfortunately cannot guarantee this for the entire journey.
Wi-Fi is not available on the SJ EuroNight. We therefore recommend that you download any content you need, such as movies, music, or other digital media before your trip begins.
There is a strict no-smoking policy throughout the entire SJ EuroNight.
This applies to both the compartments and all other areas of the train. Violations may result in removal from the train.
Yes, pets are generally allowed on the SJ EuroNight, but certain conditions apply to ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers.
The rules for traveling with pets on the train distinguish between small pets in carriers and larger animals, such as dogs.
You may bring small pets such as birds, rabbits, or guinea pigs on the train, provided they are in a suitable, closed carrier.
The carrier must not exceed the size of a standard carry-on bag and must remain closed throughout the entire journey. The animal must remain in the carrier during the journey and is not permitted to move freely in the compartment.
Bringing larger pets, particularly dogs, is only permitted if you book a private compartment in a couchette or sleeper car.
In this case, the compartment is available for your exclusive use. Within this private compartment, you may bring up to two pets at no additional charge. The animals must remain on the floor of the compartment throughout the entire journey and are not permitted to lie on beds or seats.
To ensure sufficient space, a separate compartment in a couchette or sleeper car must be booked.
There are no additional charges for unoccupied beds or berths. The service dog must remain on the floor throughout the entire journey.
For cross-border travel between Germany, Denmark, and Sweden, the respective national entry requirements for pets must be observed.
A valid pet passport is required, which must include proof of a rabies vaccination, among other things. The specific requirements may vary depending on the country and the type of animal. It is your responsibility to inform yourself about the applicable regulations of the destination and transit countries before departure.
Food and beverage options are available on the SJ EuroNight, depending on the section of the route.

If you are traveling in a sleeper car (1st or 2nd class), breakfast is included in the ticket price.
Breakfast is not included in couchette or seating cars. However, passengers can reserve breakfast for the next morning in advance at the bistro—while supplies last.
You are generally allowed to bring your own food and drinks on board. An exception applies to alcoholic beverages.
The option to rebook an SJ EuroNight trip depends on the fare you selected when making your booking. Rebooking is not done directly; instead, you must cancel your existing ticket and then book a new connection.
The conditions for rebooking vary depending on the ticket category:
With a “Rebookable” ticket, rebooking is possible. In this case, the original ticket price is credited as a balance or transferred to a new connection.
With a “Refundable” ticket, you can cancel the ticket and then rebook. The ticket price will be refunded, allowing you to make a new booking.
With a “Non-rebookable” ticket, rebooking is not possible.
Any price difference between the old and new connections must be taken into account in any case.
Cancellation on the SJ EuroNight is generally possible, provided that the booked fare allows for it:
With a “Refundable” ticket, cancellation is possible and the ticket price will be refunded.
With a “Non-rebookable” ticket, cancellation is not permitted, and no refund will be issued.
Depending on the fare, cancellations may be made up until shortly before departure. A processing fee may apply for last-minute cancellations. Once the SJ EuroNight has departed, cancellations or refunds are generally not permitted, regardless of the ticket category selected.
The SJ EuroNight is subject to the uniform European passenger rights set forth in EU Regulation (EU) 2021/782. There is no entitlement to a refund for delays directly caused by extraordinary circumstances beyond the control of the railway operator.
These include, for example, extreme weather conditions or the actions of third parties affecting railway operations.
For arrival delays not caused by the circumstances mentioned above, the following refund entitlement applies:
- Delays of 60 minutes or more: 25% of the fare for the affected journey
- For delays of 120 minutes or more: 50% of the fare for the affected trip
The actual arrival delay at the destination is always the determining factor, not the departure delay.
You can submit a claim for compensation or a refund for a trip with SJ EuroNight here. The claim must be submitted in writing and should include all relevant information about the trip. This includes, in particular, the booking details and proof of the delay.

Vær venlig at bemærke, at I skal informere SJ-Kundeservice på afrejsedagen, hvis I ønsker at stige på ved en station senere end den angivne på billetterne, så I kan beholde jeres plads i toget. Hvis I ikke har meddelt ændringen før togafgang, kan I miste retten til pladserne.
Forudsætningen for dette er, at den bookede passager med sin billet er den første ombord. De øvrige familiemedlemmer eller venner, der er angivet ved billetbestillingen, kan så også gerne stige på ved et senere stationstop for SJ EuroNights i kupeen.
Nej, SJ EuroNight transporterer udelukkende personer og ingen køretøjer. Biludlejningsfirmaerne på ankomststationen kan give jer et passende tilbud på jeres ønskede rejsekøretøj. På strækningen Hamburg <> Lörrach anbefaler vi gerne vores BTE AutoReiseZug (billetter på www.bte-autoreisezug.de).

Undgå korte skiftetider, så du ikke kommer i stress på stationen. Vi anbefaler, at der mellem skiftene er en tilstrækkelig afstand på mindst 2 timer. Under rejsen bør du kontakte togselskabet, hvis du har brug for hjælp. Hvis du sidder i et SJ-tog, skal du kontakte vores personale om bord eller SJ's kundeservice; hvis du sidder i et tog fra Deutsche Bahn, skal du kontakte Deutsche Bahn osv. Det samme gælder, hvis rejsen er forsinket; så kontakt det togselskab, der har forårsaget forsinkelsen, for at få en kompensation.
Hvad hvis du misser et skift/forbindelse? Når du rejser med tog gennem Europa, er det ofte nødvendigt at skifte tog undervejs. Du skal kunne stole på, at du når frem til din endelige destination. Derfor samarbejder SJ med 15 andre europæiske togselskaber, så du nemt kan få hjælp, hvis du misser et togskift på grund af en forsinkelse.
Hvilket bagage må medbringes ombord på vores nattog?
I må ikke tage mere end en taske (maksimale mål 80x50x35 cm, maksimal vægt 20 kg) og et lille håndbagage med. Specialbagage må kun medtages, hvis I booker en ekstra seng i jeres ligge- eller sovevognsafdeling; se oplysningerne længere nede.
Bagagen skal opbevares i afdelingen enten under den nederste seng eller over døren.
Hvis I rejser alene, ønsker at booke en sovevognsafdeling og tage mere bagage med, end hvad reglerne for SJ EuroNight tillader, skal I booke en privat afdeling. Så kan I tage bagage med i henhold til vores generelle bagageregler.
Hvis I rejser alene, ønsker at booke en liggevognsafdeling og tage mere bagage med, end hvad reglerne for SJ EuroNight tillader, skal I booke en ekstra tom liggeseng. Så kan I tage bagage med i henhold til vores generelle bagageregler.
Hvis I rejser i en gruppe og ønsker at booke en privat ligge- eller soveafdeling, anbefaler vi stadig at booke en ekstra tom seng, hvis I ønsker at tage mere bagage med, end hvad reglerne for SJ EuroNight tillader. Ellers kan det være, at der ikke er nok plads til al jeres bagage i jeres afdeling.
Hvis I rejser i en siddevogn, må I ikke booke en ekstra siddeplads for at tage mere bagage med. I må kun tage en taske og ingen specialbagage med.
Ellers gælder vores generelle regler for, hvordan I er ansvarlige for jeres bagage, og hvordan den skal pakkes.
For at kunne tage specialbagage med ind i din kupé, skal du booke en tom ekstra seng. Hvis du har booket en ekstra seng, gælder SJ's regler for specialbagage (se nedenfor).
Du må ikke tage specialbagage med, hvis du rejser i en siddevogn; dette gælder også for cykler.
Regler for specialbagage:
Hvis du ønsker at tage større bagage med, anbefaler vi, at du vælger en afgang, der ikke ligger i myldretiden. Togkonduktøren kan være nødt til at afvise specialbagage, hvis der ikke er plads på din afgang.
Barnevogne skal foldes sammen i god tid før boarding. Barnevognen skal placeres, så den ikke hindrer adgangen om bord, og må aldrig placeres nær togdøre eller flugtveje. Det er ikke tilladt at booke en plads til en kørestol for at stille en barnevogn der.
Kørestol/Mobil scooter: En plads til kørestol skal altid bookes for at medbringe en kørestol/mobil scooter i udfoldet tilstand om bord. Vi tillader kun kørestole/mobil scootere, der opfylder vores krav til længde og størrelse. Togkonduktøren kan nægte at transportere, hvis dimensionerne på kørestolen/mobil scooteren overskrider kravene, eller hvis du ikke har booket en plads til kørestol.
Kørestole/mobil scootere, der skal transporteres som bagage, skal være foldet sammen under hele rejsen. Kørestolsliften må ikke bruges til boarding. Du skal selv bære dit bagage om bord. Om bord på toget vil en sammenfoldet kørestol/scooter blive placeret i bagagerummet (maksimale dimensioner 100x85x30 cm og maksimal vægt 25 kg).
Sportsudstyr som ski og golfkøller skal opbevares i en taske og placeres, så de ikke kan vælte.
El-scootere og mindre klapcykler skal foldes sammen og placeres i bagagehylden eller under sædet foran dig. De må ikke opbevares i bagagehylderne. Det er ikke tilladt at oplade el-scootere eller større lithiumbatterier i toget.
Cykler skal skilles ad eller foldes sammen og opbevares i en cykeltaske (maksimale dimensioner 140x85x30 cm, maksimal vægt 25 kg inklusive cykel og taske). Tasken skal opbevares i bagagerummet.
Større musikinstrumenter skal opbevares i en instrumentkasse og placeres på gulvet efter anvisning fra togkonduktøren.
For at kunne tage en cykel med i SJ EuroNight skal I booke en ekstra seng i en sovevogn eller sovevognsafdeling. Cyklen kan derefter tages med, hvis den er foldet sammen og opbevaret i en cykeltaske med maksimale dimensioner på 140x85x30 cm og en maksimal vægt på 25 kg inklusive cykel og taske.
Hvad skal jeg være opmærksom på ombord?
Ja, sovevognskupéer kan låses indefra.
I SJ EuroNight er der ikke Wifi om bord. Så download musik, film eller shows, som I gerne vil se, inden I stiger om bord. Eller endnu bedre: Nyd blot rejsen og snak med jeres medrejsende eller andre passagerer!

Bistroet er tilgængeligt under rejsen i Sverige (Stockholm-Malmø, Malmø-Stockholm) i toget. Mini-Kiosken om bord sælger et mindre udvalg af mad og drikke til resten af rejsen.
Frokost under rejsen
Hvis I rejser i en sovevogn i 1. eller 2. klasse, er frokosten inkluderet i billetten. Hvis I rejser i 1. klasse, vil togpersonalet bringe frokosten til jer i jeres kupe om morgenen. Ellers venter frokosten på jer i Bistroet eller ved Kiosken!
Små kæledyr, der rejser i et bur (som fugle, kaniner og marsvin), betragtes som ét dyr pr. bur. Buret må ikke overstige størrelsen af et almindeligt håndbagage og skal altid forblive lukket. Bur kan placeres på sæderne, hvis der lægges et beskyttende underlag under. Alle dyr skal forblive på gulvet under hele rejsen, selvom der er booket en ekstra billet for mere plads.
Hvis I ønsker at rejse i en liggevogn eller sovevogn, skal I booke en privat kupe, og så kan I tage op til to kæledyr med uden ekstra omkostninger. Dyrene skal venligst forblive på gulvet og må ikke ligge på sengene.
Som passager er I ansvarlige for at sikre, om jeres kæledyr må indrejse i det pågældende land (Tyskland, Danmark, Sverige). Reglerne for rejse med dyr over nationale grænser varierer fra land til land og afhængigt af dyrearten.
Hvis I rejser med jeres dyr til udlandet, kan det være nødvendigt at have et kæledyrspas, hvor f.eks. en rabiesvaccination er dokumenteret, et såkaldt Europæisk kæledyrspas. Spørg ved booking af jeres rejse om bestemmelserne for rejsemålet og de lande, I rejser igennem.
I kan uden problemer rejse med jeres blind- eller servicehund i alle rejseklasser. For at få mere plads bookes en egen kupe. I kan derefter vælge mellem en ligge- eller sovevogns kupe i 1. eller 2. klasse. I betaler ikke ekstra for de tomme liggepladser. Hunden skal forblive på gulvet under hele turen. Børn og unge under 15 år må ikke rejse alene med SJ EuroNight. Selvom barnet er fyldt 16 år, anbefaler vi, at det medbringer en underskreven samtykkeerklæring.
