General Information
The SJ EuroNight is an international overnight train that comfortably transports you overnight between Sweden, Denmark, and Germany. You can travel alone, as a couple, with your family, or in a group, and choose from various comfort classes—from seating to sleeper cars. We look forward to seeing you!

When booking the SJ Euronight, you can choose from three comfort categories:
- the comfortable sleeper car
- the social couchette car, or
- affordable travel in the standard seating car.
Seating Car
The seating car is the most affordable travel option on the SJ Euronight. It offers seats in the lounge and in the passenger compartment. You have access to the restroom in the vestibules of the car. The car is equipped with electrical outlets.
Couchette
The couchette offers a comfortable way to spend the night lying down on the SJ Euronight.
Compartments are generally shared by several people (up to 6 people).
In shared compartments, you can sometimes choose between women’s, men’s, or mixed compartments.
You can choose between:
- A single berth in a shared compartment
- A private compartment for your exclusive use
The seats are converted into berths in the evening, and blankets, pillows, and bedding are provided. Washrooms and electrical outlets are available.
Sleeper Car (Sleeper)
The sleeper car is the most comfortable travel class on the SJ EuroNight. You travel in a lockable compartment with real beds that are freshly made before departure. The compartments offer significantly more privacy and comfort.
Amenities vary by class:
1st Class Sleeping Car:
- Private compartment (for exclusive use)
- Up to 3 beds
- Private bathroom with shower and toilet
- 230V power outlet
- Breakfast served in the compartment
- Access to the SJ Lounge in Malmö and Stockholm
2nd Class Sleeper Car:
- Compartment for 1–2 people
- In shared compartments, you can sometimes choose between women’s, men’s, or mixed compartments.
- 230V power outlet
- Sink in the compartment
- Restroom in the hallway
- Breakfast included (in the bistro or to go)
In shared compartments you can sometimes choose between women-only, men-only, or mixed compartments.
The SJ EuroNight offers accessible areas and wheelchair-accessible compartments. We recommend registering via kundenservice@sj.se before your trip.
For trips involving transfers, we recommend allowing at least 2 hours between connections to avoid unnecessary time pressure and ensure a smooth transition between trains.
In this regard, SJ collaborates with several European rail companies to provide support in such situations. The goal is to ensure that you can continue your journey and reach your final destination.
If you miss your connecting train, please contact the on-site staff or the customer service of the respective rail company directly for further assistance.
The Interrail Pass can be used for travel on the SJ EuroNight. However, it does not replace the full booking; it merely covers the fare for the route. A paid reservation is always required in addition to use of the SJ EuroNight.
The cost of the reservation depends on the selected comfort class—so the Interrail Pass does not constitute a traditional discount in the sense of a percentage reduction.
Children and teenagers up to and including age 15 are not permitted to travel alone on the SJ EuroNight. We also recommend that 16-year-olds carry a signed consent form.
Children under 2 years of age generally travel free of charge, provided they do not occupy their own seat or berth. If they require their own seat, you should book a regular ticket.
Special discounts for seniors are not offered on the SJ EuroNight.
There are no standard flat-rate discounts for groups. However, for larger groups, it may be advisable to submit an individual inquiry to kundservice@sj.se to check availability and possible terms.

You may bring one piece of luggage with maximum dimensions of 80 × 50 × 35 cm and weighing up to 20 kg, as well as one additional carry-on item.
Please note that storage space on the train is limited, and you must transport and securely stow your luggage yourself. We assume no liability for your luggage. For safety reasons, our train staff may refuse you boarding if you do not comply with our luggage regulations.
Oversized luggage must always be securely packed and stowed in such a way that it does not interfere with other passengers or train operations.
- Strollers must be folded up before boarding and may not be left in doorways or emergency exits.
- Wheelchairs or mobility aids must either be reserved as a seat or—if transported as baggage—be folded up and stowed in the designated areas.
- Sports equipment such as skis or golf clubs must be transported in suitable bags and secured to prevent them from falling over.
- Electric scooters and similar devices must be transported in a folded state and may not be charged during the journey.
- Larger musical instruments must be placed in suitable carrying cases and positioned according to the instructions of the train crew.
In addition, the carriage of special luggage may be refused if space on the train is fully occupied.
For safety reasons, no dangerous or unsuitable items may be brought on board. This includes, in particular, flammable or explosive substances, as well as items that could pose a danger to other passengers or train operations.
Motorized vehicles and items that cannot be safely stowed on the train due to their size are also prohibited.
To bring a bicycle on the SJ EuroNight, you must book an additional bed in a sleeper car or sleeper compartment. The bicycle may be brought on board if it is folded and stored in a bicycle bag with maximum dimensions of 140x85x30 cm and a maximum weight of 25 kg, including the bicycle and bag.
In the sleeper car, the beds are already made with fresh linens; bedding and towels are provided. In the couchette car, bedding—including sheets, a blanket, and a pillow—is also provided. No bedding is provided in the seating car.
Power outlets are generally available in all compartment categories.
However, we cannot guarantee a continuous power supply throughout the night, as our trains are occasionally uncoupled from the power-supplying locomotive due to shunting operations.
If you require an uninterrupted, reliable power supply for medical reasons, we unfortunately cannot guarantee this for the entire journey.
Wi-Fi is not available on the SJ EuroNight. We therefore recommend that you download any content you need, such as movies, music, or other digital media before your trip begins.
There is a strict no-smoking policy throughout the entire SJ EuroNight.
This applies to both the compartments and all other areas of the train. Violations may result in removal from the train.
Yes, pets are generally allowed on the SJ EuroNight, but certain conditions apply to ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers.
The rules for traveling with pets on the train distinguish between small pets in carriers and larger animals, such as dogs.
You may bring small pets such as birds, rabbits, or guinea pigs on the train, provided they are in a suitable, closed carrier.
The carrier must not exceed the size of a standard carry-on bag and must remain closed throughout the entire journey. The animal must remain in the carrier during the journey and is not permitted to move freely in the compartment.
Bringing larger pets, particularly dogs, is only permitted if you book a private compartment in a couchette or sleeper car.
In this case, the compartment is available for your exclusive use. Within this private compartment, you may bring up to two pets at no additional charge. The animals must remain on the floor of the compartment throughout the entire journey and are not permitted to lie on beds or seats.
To ensure sufficient space, a separate compartment in a couchette or sleeper car must be booked.
There are no additional charges for unoccupied beds or berths. The service dog must remain on the floor throughout the entire journey.
For cross-border travel between Germany, Denmark, and Sweden, the respective national entry requirements for pets must be observed.
A valid pet passport is required, which must include proof of a rabies vaccination, among other things. The specific requirements may vary depending on the country and the type of animal. It is your responsibility to inform yourself about the applicable regulations of the destination and transit countries before departure.
Food and beverage options are available on the SJ EuroNight, depending on the section of the route.

If you are traveling in a sleeper car (1st or 2nd class), breakfast is included in the ticket price.
Breakfast is not included in couchette or seating cars. However, passengers can reserve breakfast for the next morning in advance at the bistro—while supplies last.
You are generally allowed to bring your own food and drinks on board. An exception applies to alcoholic beverages.
The option to rebook an SJ EuroNight trip depends on the fare you selected when making your booking. Rebooking is not done directly; instead, you must cancel your existing ticket and then book a new connection.
The conditions for rebooking vary depending on the ticket category:
With a “Rebookable” ticket, rebooking is possible. In this case, the original ticket price is credited as a balance or transferred to a new connection.
With a “Refundable” ticket, you can cancel the ticket and then rebook. The ticket price will be refunded, allowing you to make a new booking.
With a “Non-rebookable” ticket, rebooking is not possible.
Any price difference between the old and new connections must be taken into account in any case.
Cancellation on the SJ EuroNight is generally possible, provided that the booked fare allows for it:
With a “Refundable” ticket, cancellation is possible and the ticket price will be refunded.
With a “Non-rebookable” ticket, cancellation is not permitted, and no refund will be issued.
Depending on the fare, cancellations may be made up until shortly before departure. A processing fee may apply for last-minute cancellations. Once the SJ EuroNight has departed, cancellations or refunds are generally not permitted, regardless of the ticket category selected.
The SJ EuroNight is subject to the uniform European passenger rights set forth in EU Regulation (EU) 2021/782. There is no entitlement to a refund for delays directly caused by extraordinary circumstances beyond the control of the railway operator.
These include, for example, extreme weather conditions or the actions of third parties affecting railway operations.
For arrival delays not caused by the circumstances mentioned above, the following refund entitlement applies:
- Delays of 60 minutes or more: 25% of the fare for the affected journey
- For delays of 120 minutes or more: 50% of the fare for the affected trip
The actual arrival delay at the destination is always the determining factor, not the departure delay.
You can submit a claim for compensation or a refund for a trip with SJ EuroNight here. The claim must be submitted in writing and should include all relevant information about the trip. This includes, in particular, the booking details and proof of the delay.

Vänligen observera att ni måste meddela SJ-kundtjänst på avresedagen om ni vill stiga på vid en senare station än den som anges på biljetten, så att ni behåller er plats i tåget. Om ni inte har meddelat ändringen före tågets avgångstid kan ni förlora er rätt till platsen.
Förutsättningen för detta är att den bokade resenären med sin biljett är den första ombord. De övriga medresenärerna eller vännerna som angavs vid bokningen kan sedan gärna gå ombord vid en senare station för SJ EuroNights.
Nej, SJ EuroNight transporterar endast personer och inga fordon. Biluthyrarna på ankomststationen kan gärna ge er ett passande erbjudande för ert önskade resefordon. På sträckan Hamburg <> Lörrach rekommenderar vi gärna vår BTE AutoReiseZug (biljetter på www.bte-autoreisezug.de).

Undvik snäva byte-tider så att du inte hamnar i stress på stationen. Vi rekommenderar att det mellan byten finns ett tillräckligt avstånd på minst 2 timmar. Under resan bör du kontakta tågbolaget om du behöver hjälp. Om du sitter på ett SJ-tåg, kontakta vår personal ombord eller SJ:s kundtjänst, om du sitter på ett tåg från Deutsche Bahn, kontakta Deutsche Bahn osv. Detsamma gäller om resan är försenad, då bör du kontakta det tågbolag som orsakat förseningen för att få ersättning.
Vad gör du om du missar en anslutning? När du reser med tåg genom Europa är det vanligt att du måste byta tåg under resan. Du bör kunna lita på att du kommer fram till din slutdestination. Därför samarbetar SJ med 15 andra europeiska tågbolag, så att du lätt kan få hjälp om du missar ett tågbyte på grund av en försening.
Vilket bagage får tas med ombord på vårt nattåg?
Ni får inte ta med mer än en väska (maximala mått 80x50x35 cm, maxvikt 20 kg) och ett litet handbagage. Specialbagage får endast tas med om ni bokar en extra säng i er ligg- eller sovvagn; se information längre ner.
Bagaget måste förvaras i kupén antingen under den nedersta liggplatsen eller ovanför dörren.
Om ni reser ensamma, vill boka en sovkupé och ta med mer bagage än vad som är tillåtet enligt reglerna för SJ EuroNight, måste ni boka en privat kupé. Då kan ni ta med bagage enligt våra allmänna bagageregler.
Om ni reser ensamma, vill boka en liggvagnskupé och ta med mer bagage än vad som är tillåtet enligt reglerna för SJ EuroNight, måste ni boka en extra tom liggplats. Då kan ni ta med bagage enligt våra allmänna bagageregler.
Om ni reser i grupp och vill boka en privat ligg- eller sovkupé rekommenderar vi ändå att boka en extra tom säng om ni vill ta med mer bagage än vad som är tillåtet enligt reglerna för SJ EuroNight. Annars kan det hända att det inte finns tillräckligt med plats för allt ert bagage i er kupé.
Om ni reser i en sittvagn får ni inte boka en extra sittplats för att ta med mer bagage. Ni får endast ta med en väska och inget specialbagage.
Annars gäller våra allmänna regler för hur ni ansvarar för ert bagage och hur det ska packas.
För att kunna ta med specialbagage i er kupé måste ni boka en tom extrabädd. Om ni har bokat en extra bädd gäller SJ:s regler för specialbagage (se nedan).
Ni får inte ta med specialbagage om ni reser i en sittvagn; detta gäller även för cyklar.
Regler för specialbagage:
Om ni vill ta med större bagage rekommenderar vi att ni väljer en avgång som inte ligger under rusningstid. Konduktören kan tvingas att neka specialbagage om det inte finns plats på er avgång.
Barnvagnar måste fällas ihop i god tid innan ni går ombord på tåget. Barnvagnen ska placeras så att den inte stör tillgängligheten ombord och får aldrig placeras nära tågdörrarna eller utrymningsvägarna. Det är inte tillåtet att boka en rullstolsplats för att ställa en barnvagn där.
Rullstol/Mobilitets-scooter: En rullstolsplats måste alltid bokas för att ta med en rullstol/mobilitets-scooter i utfälld position ombord. Vi tillåter endast rullstolar/mobilitets-scootrar som uppfyller våra krav på längd och storlek. Konduktören kan neka transport om måtten på rullstolen/mobilitets-scootern överskrider kraven eller om ni inte har bokat en rullstolsplats.
Rullstolar/mobilitets-scootrar som ska transporteras som bagage måste hållas ihopfällda under hela resan. Rullstolsliften får inte användas för att gå ombord. Ni måste själva bära er bagage ombord. Ombord på tåget placeras en ihopfälld rullstol/rullator i bagageutrymmet (maximala mått 100x85x30 cm och maxvikt 25 kg).
Sportutrustning som skidor och golfklubbor måste förvaras i en väska och placeras så att de inte kan falla omkull.
El-scootrar och mindre hopfällbara cyklar måste fällas ihop och placeras i bagagehyllan eller under sätet framför er. De får inte förvaras i bagagehyllorna. Det är inte tillåtet att ladda el-scootrar eller större litiumbatterier ombord på tåget.
Cyklar måste demonteras eller fällas ihop innan ombordstigning och förvaras i en cykelväska (maximala mått 140x85x30 cm, maxvikt 25 kg inklusive cykel och väska). Väskan måste förvaras i bagageutrymmet.
Större musikinstrument ska förvaras i ett instrumentfodral och placeras på golvet enligt konduktörens anvisningar.
För att kunna ta med en cykel på SJ EuroNight måste ni boka en extra säng i en sovvagn eller sovvagnsavdelning.
Vad måste jag tänka på ombord?
Ja, sovvagnskupéer kan låsas inifrån.
I SJ EuroNight finns det inget Wifi ombord. Ladda därför ner musik, filmer eller program som ni vill se innan ni kliver på. Eller ännu bättre: Njut av resan och prata med medresenärer eller andra passagerare!

Bistron är tillgänglig under resan i Sverige (Stockholm-Malmö, Malmö-Stockholm) i tåget. Mini-kiosken ombord säljer ett mindre urval av maträtter och drycker för resten av resan.
Frukost under resan
Om ni reser i en sovvagn av 1:a eller 2:a klass ingår frukosten i biljetten. Om ni reser i 1:a klass kommer tågvärden att servera frukosten på morgonen i ert avdelning. Annars väntar frukosten på er i bistron eller vid kiosken!
Små husdjur som reser i en bur (som fåglar, kaniner och marsvin) räknas som ett djur per bur. Buren får inte överskrida storleken på ett vanligt handbagage och måste alltid hållas stängd. Burar kan placeras på säten om en skyddande matta läggs under. Alla djur måste förbli på golvet under hela resan, även om ni har bokat en extra biljett för mer utrymme.
Om ni vill resa i en liggvagn eller sovvagn måste ni boka en privat kupé, och då kan ni ta med upp till två husdjur utan extra kostnad. Djuren måste vänligen förbli på golvet och får inte ligga på sängarna.
Som passagerare är ni ansvariga för att säkerställa om ert husdjur får komma in i det aktuella landet (Tyskland, Danmark, Sverige). Reglerna för att resa med djur över nationsgränser varierar från land till land och beroende på djurart.
Om ni reser med ert djur utomlands kan det behöva ett husdjursintyg, där till exempel en rabiesvaccination dokumenteras, en så kallad Europeisk husdjursintyg. Fråga vid bokningen av er resa om bestämmelserna för resmålet och de länder ni reser genom.
Ni kan enkelt resa med er ledar- eller assistanshund i alla reseklasser. För att få mer utrymme bokas en egen kupé. Ni kan då välja mellan en ligg- eller sovvagnskupé i 1:a eller 2:a klass. För de tomma liggplatserna betalar ni inget extra. Hunden måste förbli på golvet under hela resan. Barn och ungdomar under 15 år får inte resa ensamma med SJ EuroNight. Även om barnet har fyllt 16 år rekommenderar vi att de har med sig en undertecknad samtyckesförklaring.
