Important information for the season 2023 of the ALPEN-SYLT Night Express

We regret to inform you that there will be no season in 2023 of the ALPEN-SYLT Night Express.

Unfortunately, we are still faced with conditions that do not allow us to offer our night train in the quality and reliability that you may expect from us.
Since in Germany, unlike in many other countries in Europe, night train services are not subsidised, the operation of the ALPEN-SYLT Night Express is not economically viable in the current environment, even with good bookings.

We continue to believe in the future of night trains and the ALPEN-SYLT Night Express and are confident that we will be able to bring you safely, climate-friendly and reliably through the night to your destination again in other times in a more favourable framework.

Yours sincerely,

Your team of the ALPEN-SYLT Night Express

Route map 2022

In southbound direction our ALPEN-SYLT Nachtexpress will divide from operating stop Bebra (Hesse): Passengers with destination Salzburg continue via Nuremberg, Munich to Salzburg. Passengers with destination Basel will travel via Frankfurt/Main, Karlsruhe and Freiburg to Basel. In the northbound direction, both train sections are combined into one train from Bebra, which travels via Hamburg and Husum directly to the island of Sylt (Westerland).

From Hamburg, there is a direct connection to our night train to destinations such as Copenhagen, the Danish west coast (Esbjerg and Blåvand) and the islands of Rømø, Fehmarn, Rügen; cruise ports in Stralsund, Rostock or Kiel can also be reached quickly from Hamburg. Heading south, you can easily reach Zurich, for example, by changing trains at our destination stop Basel-Bad.

Safety on board the night train

A consistent hygiene concept applies on board our train: the sanitary areas are equipped with disinfection dispensers, bedding/linen and towels are provided by us, and the windows can be opened for ventilation en route.

When traveling in the comfort classes Sleeping Car-Deluxe, Sleeping Car-Comfort and Couchette-Plus, you will be traveling in your own private compartment - without no third parties boarding. Therefore, you do not need to wear a mask there and can breathe freely (mandatory, however, during boarding/embarking, in the aisles and in the seating car). Traveling with our train is therefore basically very safe, even in times of pandemic!

You can also book a single seat in a public seating car or a single couchette in a public couchette compartment (for women optionally in the public ladies' compartment). For the protection of passengers, masks are compulsory for the entire duration of the journey in all public compartments shared with strangers, unlike in private compartments.

Good to know: If there is a COVID-19 travel warning for the departure or destination station on the day of travel, you can change your travel date at any time, free of charge and as often as you wish.
